Ip Chun studied Wing Chun since he was 7 years old. He started his classes with his father Ip Man, the founder of Wing Chun. Ip Man moved to Hong Kong because of the Chinese Communist Party. Ip decided to stay in Foshan with his younger brother and mother. So, he continued his studies at University. Later on, because of the Cultural Revolution, Ip Chun and his younger brother Ip Ching moved to Hong Kong to join their father.

Ip studied Chinese history, philosophy, traditional music, poetry and Buddhism. When he finished his studies in 1950, he decided to become a teacher. In this period he also helped local Opera in organizing some plays and he received many awards. 

When he moved to Hong Kong he worked as an accountant and a reporter. In his free time he continued to practice Wing Chun with his father.

In 1967 Ip Chun opened his own school and began teaching. among his students there are some that train with him still nowadays, such as Ho Kay Ho Kay. Ip Man died in December 1972, leaving to his sons a video footage of Siu Nim Tao , Chum Kiu and Muk Yan Jong.
